Manganese sand filtration media is produced from natural manganese ore through processing, crushing, and screening.
It has a rough appearance with a reddish-brown color, near-spherical shape, high mechanical strength, and stable chemical properties. It can last for more than 4 years in usage.
The removal of iron and manganese involves oxidizing low-valent iron and manganese ions into high-valent ions, followed by adsorption and filtration to reduce iron and manganese content in water.
Manganese sand is effective for removing dissolved iron and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from water.
It operates on the principle of oxidation to precipitate dissolved iron and manganese as particles, which are then filtered out. Periodic backwashing is necessary to discharge these particles.
Regular regeneration using potassium permanganate (KMnO4) is required to maintain its oxidation capacity, as it otherwise loses effectiveness over time. -
